Liverpool vs Sunderland
Anfield 3rd December 2025
Liverpool, for the majority of the game, was the better side. What exactly does this mean? For me, it was clear to see that Liverpool had the better players, the bulk of possession, and the intensity. Sunderland almost snatched a late winner as Wilson Isidor latched on to a long ball from the Sunderland goalkeeper, Robin Roefs, but Chiesa was back in defense and blocked the shot made by Isidor once he had rounded Alisson. That chance a byproduct of LFC's pressing up the pitch in the closing minutes of the game.
Sunderland were good for their point, although Liverpool were overall the stronger side. They are too predictable under Slot, not offering up a plan B or C when the defenders work them out. Salah does not seem himself despite creating a few chances by crossing in quick balls. Wirtz was busy and he's trying to connect with his strikers but they're working in too narrow a space, and it's the tightness that results in the final pass going astray. Klopp's Liverpool operated with more width and allowed runs towards the goal lines, which we aren't seeing under Slot.
